Giant snakehead lures that actually work
The title is a promise, so this page stays honest. It will only name a lure when we have caught a snakehead with it on camera. Until then it explains the approach and shows what is still missing.
How snakehead feed
A snakehead is an ambush predator that lives around cover: weeds, wood, the edge of a pond. It breathes air, so you often see it roll at the surface. That tells you where to cast. The species page has the biology.
General approach
- Cast close to cover, then keep the lure moving across the surface or just under it.
- Use strong line and hooks: the fish fights hard near weeds and wood.
- Keep a pair of long pliers and a lip grip. Snakeheads have teeth.

Catch and release
Never release a snakehead in a water where it does not live. In several countries the species is regulated. Check the rules where you fish.
