The European perch. It is a close relative of the yellow perch of North America.
What makes it special
Striped green flanks, a spiny first dorsal fin, and a habit of hunting in schools. The young eat small invertebrates, the big ones turn to fish.

Lakes, ponds and slow rivers in Europe and northern Asia, including Italy.

Invertebrates when young, then small fish.
